There are lots of reasons why this candidacy appeals to me. Not least is that Gov Huckabee represents millions of Americans who keep voting Republican but keep seeing their way of life eroding just the same.

While the Gov might seem regressive on some issues, his interest in helping the ordinary American family is very real.

The Big Business end of the Republican is probably most responsible for leading the Party astray on lots of issues – excessive earmarks, undue lobbyists influence, corporate welfare and bail-outs, cronyism, improvident warfare etc and Gov Huckabee is the only viable Republican Candidate in the field who can win, and who would reform the Party in the process.

As to his character, his family life seems a model of stability and nurturing attention; his own dramatic effort to lose weight demonstrates discipline and will and an ability to do what it takes to get results.

Huckabee’s heartfelt Christian faith may alienate some people but they should remember that it’s from there that he finds the compassion to see Government as an instrument for good in many people’s lives.

Furthermore, Huckabee is not out to enrich himself by abusing his influence and contacts, but is genuinely committed to public service.

I would be proud to support him in the 2008 gneral election.
