The pity of the situation we find ourselves in, is not that we may need to go to someone like Michael Bloomberg at the end of this campaign, but that we ignore solid, capable, disguinshed statesmen like Sens. Biden and Dodd. Whatever else may said for them, they have given this country many years of outstanding service. Frankly, they deserved better.

It is troubling that even with the grave international situation, we can’t shake the American Idol approach to our national destiny. It has always been this way, though.
