Attorney General Mukasky is refusing to enforce Congress’s subpoena to compel Josh Bolton and Harriet Miers to testify before congress.

Speaker of the House Pelosi plans to seek a court ruling to force their testimony.

Frankly, this is absurd. Congress is a co-equal branch of our government. Every child learns this in civics class, though with Every Child Left Behind they are probably not even teaching that much anymore. Congress should just move immediately to impeach Mukasky.

Instead of worrying as much as we do over the year-long beauty contest called the presidential campaign we should be focusing on this outrageous subversion of our constitutional democracy.

Any bets on which candidate will speak out first about this extraordinary abuse?

If you said none of them, you may well have won. Though I’d love to see Sen Obama’s reaching across the aisle in action on this one. For some reason I have a feeling he would quickly discover how little words can accomplish in compelling these thugs to obey the law – the very reason why he won’t do or say anything. After all the candidate of change can’t risk exposing just how ineffectual words can be in addressing the really urgent questions of our time.
