2008 Rep Delegate Count

2008 Dem Delegate Count

At the moment (inc. awarded superdelegates) Sen. Hillary Clinton is said to have 261 (not including possible delegates from Florida and Michigan) and Sen. Barack Obama has 190 (also not including possible delegates from Florida and Michigan). There were 26 candidates awarded to John Edwards before his withdrawal last week.

On the Republican side, Sen. John McCain leads with 93 delegates; Gov. Mitt Romney has 77 delegates, Gov. Mike Huckabee has 40 delegates and Rep. Ron Paul has 4.

On both sides it’s going to be very, very close.

It’s been interesting watching the Republican party shatter. I don’t think the general media I’ve seen appreciate this. They’ve been too busy trying to convince us that it’s the Democratic party which is being rent asunder.

Tomorrow is gong to be exciting. I suspect Sen Hillary Clinton will perform better, but not as strongly as she would have liked.

If you add the Huckabee-Romney vote together it really challenges Sen. John McCain.

At the moment Sen McCain seems unlikely to be reconciled with the right-wing of his party. Might they see all that as a call to run an independent candidate?

They keep talking as if it’s “The Reagan Coalition” crumbling at the edges when it’s really the Revenge of the Southern Strategy.

The GOP might actually be at the beginning of the end of it’s ability to advance a national agenda. Will it go the way of the Whigs?

Discuss.
